Bob and Donna Sellers
Mixed Medium Collages, Photography, Digital Painting, and Acrylics
Bob and Donna were practicing psychotherapists emphasizing creative, expressive arts before moving to Eureka and becoming artists in 1998. Using photography, mixed media, and acrylics, they have turned their experiences with the power of metaphors and symbolism into dynamic, imaginative, and colorful artworks with a particular emphasis on themes (story art) that can take the viewer on an inner journey.
After the Sellers won the Grand Prize at the Northwest Photography Show at the Morris Graves Museum of Art, they began creating mixed media paintings featuring reflections of the Feminine. After photographing models and creating a montage, they digitally paint the entire montage, print it on canvas, and hand-paint it with acrylics. After each painting is complete, they write short stories or poems inspired by their art.
The Sellers combine their background in psychology with their skills in photography and digital painting. They often begin with an idea or theme, set up photo shoots, digitally paint montages that elicit imaginative stories and paint the final outcome with acrylic paint. They are best known locally for their art that includes people and backgrounds from the beautiful community in which they live.
The Sellers enjoy working and collaborating with each other on each painting, working through varied perceptions and imaginations. One of them becomes the “director” and has the final say on any conflicts that may arise.
Donna recently published The Choice of Next, a self-discovery book and memoir that follows the Journey of the Feminine as she encounters crossroads and moments of change. Full of Art and art-inspired stories and poems, Donna also includes ways to reflect and write about your life.
Bob published An Absence of Normal in 2029 available on Amazon Books.
During Bob’s years as a Psychotherapist, he developed unique approaches to therapeutic story writing and metaphoric psychodrama. He guided clients in writing metaphoric stories based on their issues.
“We enjoy working and collaborating on each painting, working through our varied perceptions and imaginations. One of the great things we have learned from working together is managing conflict when we disagree. While we enjoy working and collaborating on each painting, there have been times when we disagreed on how to proceed. To avoid conflict, the one who initiated the art piece becomes the “director” and has the final say when there is a conflict. Working together has become a pathway for greater closeness and understanding, letting go of control issues, and opening new avenues for intimacy and sharing.” —Donna Sellers
